Things to do in Jupiter

SUMMER IS OUR GREAT ESCAPE

While we certainly miss them, the tourists that have gone back home. With summer’s return on June 21, we have the waterways, roads and other outdoor attractions to ourselves.

So let’s get out there and enjoy!

HINT: Early mornings are best to see otters, deer, turkeys and other wildlife at Riverbend Park. JUPITER OUTDOOR CENTER rents bicycles and watercraft 365 days a year. JOC opens at 9 a.m.

The Wild & Scenic Loxahatchee River, surrounded by sky-scraping cyress trees, birds and wildlife, is summer’s great escape.

Scampering raccoons, yellow-bellied turtles basking in the sun and great blue herons prancing in the shallows as they seek out a meal in Riverbend Park are regular summer visitors.

Sign up here for a Riverbend Park Twilight/Sunset tour.

That hoot you hear might be an owl. That splash, an otter swimming by. And relax when you hear a high-pitched screech – it’s likely from a male limpkin. Their long tracheas allow them to make that amazing noise when they are breeding or seeking a mate.

That sweet smell is the aroma of elegant swamp lilies. Sprouting on the banks of the Lox, they  look like white starbursts.

The plants, which grow up to three feet tall, love full sun. While smelling and looking good is fine, it has its downside. Insects like grasshoppers and flies love to snack on swamp lillies.
PEDAL

Shade — so welcome in the summer heat – is abundant while riding a bicycle through the miles of meandering, wide shell-rock trails in Riverbend Park. Tall palm and oak trees provide a cool umbrellas for much of your ride. There’s several cool chickee huts for rest stops. And don’t worry about getting lost. The chicken huts have easy-to-read maps, showing exactly where you are and how to get to your next stop or exit the trail.

Take your time pedaling and enjoy the delicate swamp lilies, towering cypress trees, colorful butterflies and and flying turkeys along the Loxahatchee River on your things to do in Jupiter tour.

Take a trip on your own or sign up for one of JOC’s Pedal & Paddle Tours.
