Lake Trail

Spend a leisurely afternoon with the family bicycling or walking along the six-mile Palm Beach Lake Trail.

With picture-perfect landscaping, manicured mansions and yachts floating by, Lake Trail is about as Palm Beach as it gets.

The flat trail is traffic-free, paved and hugs the Lake Worth waterfront. Towering royal palms, renowned architecture and historic homes are part of the tropical scenery. Bicycle rental stores are nearby.

Admission to the trial is free.

Get out early on hot days for this Things To Do in Jupiter adventure — cool shade is best in the morning.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Bicycle Trail

Pedal east on PGA Boulevard, past the manicured gated communities and golf courses, and then to Beeline Highway – you’re next stop at the northern end of the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Bicycle Trail.

The 110-mile trail – only seasoned bicycle riders do it in a day – is a mostly paved cycling route around the second-largest lake entirely within the borders of the United States. The unpaved part is a gravel roadway on top of the 35-foot high Herbert Hoover Dam.

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, colorful fishing villages and tree-lined trails dot the Things To Do in Jupiter adventure.

Jupiter Outdoor Center

Families will always remember an adventure with up close and personal views of deer, otters, birds, butterflies and more when you pedal — or paddle — on the wide-open Wild & Scenic Loxahatchee River.

JOC’s expert guides will show you all the beautiful nooks and crannies along the river. Or just head out on your own — and quickly figure out why the river was named Loxahatchee — Seminole for “River of Turtles.”

Jupiter Outdoor Center offers single, tandem, kids and three-wheel bicycles for rent. The trails are mostly shaded. The crushed-shell surface makes easy pedaling. Ask about JOC’s guided moonlight, mangrove mystery and Pedal/Paddle Things To Do in Jupiter tour.

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge

Horseback riding, fishing, bird watching, hiking, photography, boating, nature classes — there’s something for everybody in the family at Lox Wildlife.

First, Lox Refuge is BIG – 147,000 acres or 226 square miles.

How big is that?  The Lox Refuge is one-third as big as Lake Okeechobee. (730 sq. miles). Half the size of Grand Bahama Island. (530 sq. miles.) Lox Refuge is 10 times bigger than the town of Jupiter. (23 sq. miles)

Check out the Bird Trail Tracker for recent bird sightings on the refuge before your Things To Do in Jupiter birding adventure.

More than 250 species of birds, 60 species of reptiles and amphibians, 40 species of butterflies, and 20 types of mammals call the Lox home.

There’s even a place to walk your pets.

Your family won’t believe how close you can get to roseate spoonbills, cormorants and turtles at Wakodahatchee Wetlands.

The man-made wetlands, with a three-quarter-mile-long boardwalk through restored native trees and plants, are on the bucket list of nature lovers and bird watchers.

Purple gallinule, green herons, yellow-rumped warblers, bald eagles, a variety of hawks and flocks of shorebirds are just a few of the feathered friends you’ll make.

The manmade wetlands filter the water as it seeps into the underground aquifer that is essential to South Florida’s water supply.

Admission to this  Things To Do in Jupiter trip is free.

BTW: “Wakodahatchee” is a Miccosukee word meaning “created waters.”
