THE HEARTBEAT OF JUPITER

That’s what Sawfish Bay was known as when Henry Flagler was building his railroad in the early 1900s from Jacksonville to Key West.

The railroad connected Jupiter, then a tiny river community, to Jacksonville and the rest of the northeast United States.

That’s the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse straight ahead in your things to do in Jupiter tour..

As you paddle by the historic lighthouse in your things to do in Jupiter adventure, impress your companions with these Lighthouse facts:

  • First lit July 10, 1860
  • The Lighthouse is 156 feet high
  • There are 105 steps inside to the top of the lighthouse
  • On a clear night, the lighthouse can be seen from about 25 miles out by a ship at sea
  • The lighthouse is lit by a 1,000 watt, 120 volt, GE quartz-iodine bulb socketed in a lamp changer with an identical spare.
