Self-Guided Canoe and Kayak Exploration

Hit the water at Canoe Rentals. You’ll have a great time paddling the wild and scenic Loxahatchee River.

Do you enjoy paddling kayaks and canoes but don’t like the hassle of hauling the boats on your car and cleaning them afterward? Rent a kayak or canoe from Canoe Rentals!

With each boat rental you get life vests for each person, paddles, a whistle and a map to help you find the way. Be sure to bring the items you need for a river trip.

We know you’ll enjoy paddling the Loxahatchee River. It’s unlike many other Florida rivers in that little has changed in the last hundred years. Sure there are some modern conveniences at the Park, such as picnic shelters, restrooms and trails but the river itself is relatively unchanged.

The Loxahatchee starts out narrow and twisty as it meanders its way toward the Atlantic. You’ll pass through an incredible cypress swamp, complete with thousands of species of plants and animals.

Some of the more popular birds include Great Blue Heron, Ibis, Bald Eagle, Osprey, Turkey and Sand Hill Cranes. Four-footed creatures that you might see include raccoons, squirrels, deer, gopher tortoise, bobcat and of course, Florida’s favorite – the alligator.

We even get a few animals without legs. If you’d like to try fishing from a kayak or canoe, bring your pole and gear. Bass, panfish, mullet, snook, tarpon, red fish and jacks can be found at various places along the river and estuary.

Self-Guided Canoe and Kayak Exploration Paddling at Canoe Outfitters

 Paddling Trips

Trip #1: Cypress Canopy
The Cypress Canopy run is our most popular trip. It’s up to 3.5 miles of fun exploring flora and fauna in a cypress swamp.

Trip #2: The Park
Paddling the Park is sure to please everyone in your group. See West Lake, Little Pond, Gator Slough and more. Even at 5.5 miles, this is our easiest trip.

Trip #3: Jonathan Dickinson
The 8.5 mile Park to Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a favorite with experienced canoeists and kayakers. See where Trapper Nelson AKA “Tarzan of the Loxahatchee River” lived.

Rentals:
We offer several choices of kayaks from single seat to tandem (2 person) and Old Town canoes. In a canoe you can carry two adults and one or two small children.

Paddling the Loxahatchee River ranges from easy – try our Park trip – to moderately strenuous, depending upon your skills and the weather. After tropical storms or periods of heavy rain you’re likely to encounter stronger currents and trees cris-crossing the water, sometimes making you go over, under and around obstacles.

Come on over to the Park and stop at Canoe Rentals to rent a boat and hit the water. You’ll have a wonderful day exploring the beautiful Loxahatchee River.
